Tree Climbing Courses

Basic Tree Climbing Course uses a moving double rope technique (DRT) with a self-belay friction knot for ascending and descending the rope. The course is 18 hours over three days. It begins with a two hour introductory climb on day one from 6-8pm. This course teaches all the skills and techniques needed to enable a person to climb safely with rope and harness. It is an intensive course; you will be tired at the end of each day and should devote the whole time to only tree climbing and relaxing. You will learn about tree selection, gear, care of equipment, and care of the trees. You will need to pass both a written test and a physical demonstration of your abilities in order to successfully complete the course. This course was developed by members of Tree Climbers International to keep you safe and competent.

SRT (single rope technique) Course is recommended for those wanting to do canopy research and for regularly climbing trees over 100’. SRT involves climbing a single rope with mechanical ascenders and rappelling with a descending device. The prerequisite for this course is the Basic Tree Climbing Course.

Hunting & Wildlife Observation Course

Much safer than portable tree stands and quieter, too, recreational tree climbing can be used for wildlife observation and hunting for hours on end. In this class, you will learn the basics of tree climbing using the double rope technique, hunter safety in the tree, and preparing an unclimbed tree.
